From an early age I knew I wanted to work in entertainment. All of my childhood interests seemed to bring me to the world of post-production. Acting in a community theater taught me about performance, creative writing classes taught me about storytelling, and music and dance classes taught me about rhythm and pacing. For me editing combines all these, while still requiring its own form of creativity.
My first editing project was a documentary I made for the National History Day competition in 8th grade. Once in high school, I enrolled in a television production class. More video projects followed, and I found myself voluntarily staying after school to edit. When the time came to apply to colleges I knew film school was where I wanted to be.
I enrolled in Chapman University as a film production major with an emphasis in editing. While at school I learned Avid Media Composer, as well as Final Cut Pro. My second semester sophomore year was spent abroad in Cannes, France where I interned as a production assistant at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. The following summer I interned in post-production on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Upon obtaining a Bachelors of Fine Arts and a minor in French from Chapman, I participated in the American Cinema Editors’ (A.C.E.) internship in 2010. I spent one week each with Alan Baumgarten, A.C.E. on Dinner For Schmucks, Scott Vickrey, A.C.E. on The Good Wife, and Nicole Baer on Supernatural. Learning from these talented editors, and their incredible assistants, has given me the skills and passion needed to be a top assistant editor.
Since the internship, I am currently working as an assistant editor on the web-based reality series If I Can Dream, which is produced by Simon Fuller of American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance fame. The show follows a group of young aspiring artist living in a house with 60 cameras streaming their every move. In addition to the live stream, a thirty minute episode airs each Tuesday on Hulu highlighting the events of the week as the aspiring artists follow their dreams.
